Where Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Science

The Nervous System: From Survival Mode to Restoration

Many of us spend our working lives operating in a constant state of stress. Deadlines, meetings, emails, workload pressures, and the demands of modern life can keep the nervous system in what is known as a sympathetic state — often referred to as "fight or flight."

When this stress response remains switched on for prolonged periods, it can contribute to anxiety, fatigue, poor concentration, sleep disruption, tension, and burnout.

In the UK alone, an estimated 875,000 workers experienced work-related stress, depression, or anxiety in 2022/23, resulting in 17.1 million working days lost.

Yoga and breathwork help activate the parasympathetic nervous system — often referred to as the "rest and digest" response. This is the body's natural state of recovery, repair, and restoration.

By intentionally slowing down the breath and bringing awareness to movement, employees can learn practical tools to regulate stress, improve resilience, and support long-term wellbeing.
